    PTE Exam Day Tips

Wish to Crack PTE Academic With Flying Colours?

Below are a few tips that eliminate all your unforced errors while sitting in the actual PTE exam.

Generally, those candidates, who are appearing in the PTE exam for the first time, are not aware of the exam day scenario and may lead to do some unforced errors. This blog will provide you with all the sufficient information that candidate needs to aware of before sitting in actual PTE exam.

    Myths Vs Solutions

Reaching Very Early or Late to Exam Center is Okay

    Answer

Wrong: Going early and sit for an hour or so may actually drain your energy, confidence, and enthusiasm. Also, Exam centers only allow candidates to enter before half an hour or so. During the time, candidates will have to wait into waiting lounge. And you may talk to other candidates, exchange ideas, thoughts and perception. But that last moment changes in your mind may significantly affect your own methodology and performance.

Same way late arrival may lead to increase anxiety and uncertainty.

    Solution

You should arrive 45 minutes prior to the exam center. Get acquainted with the center, freshen up, and ready for the exam procedures. Do not give any room for your mind to divert.

You Need to Speak Louder in Order to Compete With Others in The Exam Hall

    Answer

Partial correct. You can be distracted when someone is shouting. It’s obvious. But you should not worry about the sounds they produce.

Because the headphone provided in the exam is of very high quality and is having noise cancellation feature. It is very sensitive and that ensures to record your voice very clearly which is sufficient enough for the PTE software to assess your response quality.

    Solution

If you have a situation where another candidate is shouting and your mind gets disturbed, you can always raise your hand and the examiner immediately asks them to lower it down. You even do not have to stand up, just raise your hand as you are constantly monitored throughout your examination.

You should speak at a bit of a slower speed than your usual speech. At the same time, you speak with one bit louder than your usual speech. This strategy will help you when you encounter unfamiliar or hard pronouncing words.

If you are driving at a slower speed and a bump arrived on your road, it’s very manageable to get rid of it. But imagine if your speed is high then? Obviously, you will lose control and fall.

At the same time as I said, your bit of a high tone in speaking will eliminate murmuring sound and will also give you confidence in speaking and will let you keep engaging in your own business, and not the others!!!

I Find it Difficult to Speak at The Start of The Exam and Naturally Fumble Even in The Easiest Read Aloud

    Answer

Correct: It is the natural human mentality. It’s a state of mind that goes into anxiety mode once we are into any competitive zone.

Our heartbeats increase. State of mind tends to get in disorder and we fail to respond correctly even a simple word that otherwise would be easy to pronounce.

    Solution

Prepare your mind with strong positive vibes. The first question that comes to your exam is Read Aloud. Then try to practice at least 15-20 Read Aloud questions 2 hours before your exam in the same way that you will be speaking during the exam.

This will boost your confidence during the exam and eliminate initial highs of anxiety a bit.

Take time to adjust your microphone and volume setup. Spend a minute or two in the exam hall will also help you to accustom to the exam environment.

It’s all about focus. Try not to listen to another candidate’s responses and focus only on your speaking. Once 2 or 3 Read Aloud is over, you will get back to your natural rhythm anyway. So please improve your mental focus and do not distract yourself.

It’s Okay Not to Practice in Laminated Sheet with Erasable Marker and Will Do it in The Exam Itself

    Answer

Wrong: You need to practice skating before launching yourself on the surfboard. Writing in a laminated rough book with pointed erasable marker is a bit of a skiddy experience.

You will always find it hard to note down your keywords or letters or sentences simultaneously with running audios. If you open the lid of a pen for a longer time, it may also lead to freezing and you cannot effectively note down your responses.

    Solution

You need to buy a laminated sheet and an erasable pointed black pen and practice. It may cost you around 100 Rupees. But that helps a lot. Practice makes a man perfect. Try to keep the lead capped while not using the pen in the exam.

Such small factors may literally make you tensed in the exam. My point for the blog is to get accustomed to what you will be going to face in the exam.

Any Exam Center Issues Like Power Failure in The Exam, Some Technical Errors or Any Frequent Disturbances

    Solution

If you found any of the issues related to the exam center as stated above, you must need to ask them to fill up the complaint form before you step out of your exam center.

Note: Any queries raised after you leave the exam center will not be considered by Pearson.

So please be proactive and ask them to write a complaint email to Pearson. They will write on your behalf and will list down the experiences you have faced.

You will be given a complaint reference number from them immediately. Only then, you can actually raise your point to Pearson in further communication.

If Pearson finds it legitimate after reviewing with the exam center, they may get you any further exam date for reappearing. But only if they find it legitimate. Not all the cases are entertained. They have the ultimate authority to make decisions.

    Answer

    Wrong:

In the PTE Exam hall, you are only allowed 5 things to take.

    • 2 no. of erasable markers
    • 1 no. laminated A3 size spiral bind rough book
    • A Passport
    • And your locker key

You generally require only your identity proof to show at the exam center. They do not ask for any other documents. Generally, your acceptable ID would be a passport for most of the time.

Apart from this, you will have to put all your belongings into the locker you are provided with. Not even a handkerchief is allowed.
