Australia, like many other countries around the world, is working hard to recover from the adverse consequences of COVID-19. The Australian government has created a Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List to address skill shortages in critical sectors. The list is based on suggestions from the National Skills Commission and consultants from Commonwealth departments. It includes occupations that will help Australia mend from the economic losses that occurred due to COVID-19. In conclusion –
“The Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) includes skilled occupations outlined as pivotal to Australia’s economic recovery following COVID-19.”
There are 44 occupations on the list in total including the following
Note: The above list is temporary in nature and subject to alteration at any time in response to the changing needs of the Australian job market.
The Processing of Australia Immigration applications from candidates belonging to occupations on the list will be prioritised. Although all other skilled occupation lists will stay in force, applicants whose professions are on the PMSOL list will have their visas processed more quickly. The visa classes involved are
The statement made by Alan Tudge, the acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs –
“These occupations in the health care, construction and IT sectors will supercharge both our health and economic response.’’
He further added
“Visa holders, who have been sponsored by an Australia business in a PMSOL occupation can request an exemption from Australia’s travel restrictions, but will be subject to a strict 14 days quarantine on arrival at their own expense.”
