A Belief That IELTS Means Learning English
IELTS is itself checking proficiency level of English; if a student is not well with their basic spoken English and directly jump into IELTS preparation, they might feel difficult to cope with IELTS preparation. IELTS exam is assessing the proficiency level of the English language, which the candidate has learnt before.
Grammar is the base of any language, including English. There are separate assessment criteria of grammatical range and accuracy in IELTS Writing and speaking, so if students are weak in grammar, it might get difficult for them to score well.
How to Prepare for the IELTS Test?
Be Familiar With IELTS Format
Before your IELTS preparation, a student must be familiar with the IELTS test formats as there are various types of IELTS exam pattern (four modules). If students are not aware of the basic layout and structure, they tend to confuse during IELTS preparation. Students can take guidance from the IELTS coaching available.
As per the IELTS exam pattern survey, Listening is One of the Scoring Modules in IELTS. In listening, the vernacular accent is used, and an essential quality required for listening is concentration. Initially, students may feel challenging to cope up with pronunciation, but gradually it can be improved. Students can listen to BBC English news, ted talks, podcasts, or any movies or web series to enhance listening skills.
Also, practicing question types can help a lot improve listening; for example, if students are weak in a kind of question, they should focus on that type only for 4 to 5 days to help them have a good grip on that type.
IELTS Reading is not an easy nut to crack as students must solve 40 questions in one hour. Sometimes it becomes difficult for a student when they are not habituated with reading in daily routine.
The foremost way to improve reading is to cultivate the habit of reading academic articles. Most academic research articles, historical, technology, and many more so students require a profound understanding level to crack this in IELTS reading.
There are many resources from where students develop reading skills such as New scientist(magazines), The economist(newspaper), National geographics(magazine). Practicing question types is also much helpful for students as that will improve their weaker area in reading.
As per IELTS, Writing is Considered One of the Most Challenging Modules to Score. It becomes problematic when students are not aware of the primary assessment criteria of IELTS writing. Before starting, a student should go through the four-assessment criteria mentioned in the band descriptor.
Apart from this, grammar also plays a significant role as in this student must show the different grammatical structures, such as simple, complex, compound, conditional, active-passive, and so on. All in all, continuous practice is the only way to improve writing in IELTS.
